In 2011, Beijing Language and Culture University Press established Phoenix Tree Publishing Inc., the first overseas branch of a domestic university press, in Chicago, USA. Over the past 12 years, Phoenix Tree Publishing has grown its market share in the international Chinese education sector from zero to 15-20%, securing its position among the top three Chinese-language publishing institutions in North America. Leveraging this branch, BLCU Press’s products have successfully integrated into the K-12 education systems of seven U.S. states, including Utah and Texas. Phoenix Tree Publishing’s books and educational materials are now used in over 1,200 primary and secondary schools, as well as more than 300 universities and similar educational institutions across the United States. Today, Phoenix Tree Publishing has become a benchmark for the successful global expansion of Chinese publishing institutions and a leading example of promoting Chinese language and culture within the North American education system.
